Zusammenfassung: <jats:p>A Gram-staining-negative, strictly aerobic, non-motile, rod-shaped and flexirubin-type-pigmented strain, THG C4-1<jats:sup>T</jats:sup>, was isolated from green tea leaves in Jangheung-gun, Republic of Korea. Strain THG C4-1<jats:sup>T</jats:sup> grew well at 20–30 °C, at pH 7.0–7.5 and in the absence of NaCl on nutrient agar. The DNA G+C content was 41.7 mol%. The only isoprenoid quinone detected in strain THG C4-1<jats:sup>T</jats:sup> was menaquinone 6 (MK-6). The major component of the polyamine pattern was <jats:italic>sym</jats:italic>-homospermidine. The major polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine and unidentified aminolipids. The major fatty acids were iso-C<jats:sub>15 : 0</jats:sub>, iso-C<jats:sub>17 : 0</jats:sub> 3-OH and iso-C<jats:sub>17 : 1</jats:sub>ω9<jats:italic>c</jats:italic>. These data supported the affiliation of strain THG C4-1<jats:sup>T</jats:sup> to the genus <jats:named-content xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" content-type="genus" xlink:type="simple"> <jats:ext-link ext-link-type="uri" xlink:href="http://dx.doi.org/10.1601/nm.8147" xlink:type="simple"> <jats:italic>Chryseobacterium</jats:italic> </jats:ext-link> </jats:named-content>. The results of physiological and biochemical tests enabled strain THG C4-1<jats:sup>T</jats:sup> to be differentiated genotypically and phenotypically from recognized species of the genus <jats:named-content xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" content-type="genus" xlink:type="simple"> <jats:ext-link ext-link-type="uri" xlink:href="http://dx.doi.org/10.1601/nm.8147" xlink:type="simple"> <jats:italic>Chryseobacterium</jats:italic> </jats:ext-link> </jats:named-content>. Therefore, the novel isolate represents a novel species, for which the name <jats:italic>Chryseobacterium camelliae</jats:italic> sp. nov. is proposed, with THG C4-1<jats:sup>T</jats:sup> ( = KACC 16985<jats:sup>T</jats:sup> = JCM 18745<jats:sup>T</jats:sup>) as the type strain.</jats:p>
