No rhythm could be distinguished for the initial slope of the light saturation curve, <jats:italic>α</jats:italic>, although <jats:italic>α</jats:italic> and <jats:italic>P<jats:sub>m</jats:sub><jats:sup>B</jats:sup></jats:italic> were highly correlated and the daily and hourly variations in <jats:italic>α</jats:italic> were as great as those in <jats:italic>P<jats:sub>m</jats:sub><jats:sup>B</jats:sup></jats:italic>. Diel variations in the derived parameter <jats:italic>I<jats:sub>k</jats:sub></jats:italic>(≡<jats:italic>P<jats:sub>m</jats:sub><jats:sup>B</jats:sup>/α</jats:italic>) were described by a model similar to that proposed for <jats:italic>P<jats:sub>m</jats:sub><jats:sup>B</jats:sup></jats:italic>. The rhythm <jats:italic>P<jats:sub>m</jats:sub><jats:sup>B</jats:sup></jats:italic> was found to have a significant effect on the estimation of daily productivity.
