|a Investigating the 2016 EU Referendum in the UK, The Language of Brexit explores the ways in which 'Brexit' campaigners utilised language more persuasively than their 'Remain' counterparts. Drawing parallels with effective political discourse used worldwide, this book highlights the linguistic features of an increasingly popular style of political campaigning. Concentrating on the highly successful and emotive linguistic strategies employed by the Brexit campaigners against the comparatively lacklustre Remain camp, Buckledee makes a case for the contribution of language towards the narrow 52-48% Brexit victory. Using primary examples, what emerges is how urging people to have the courage to make a bid for freedom naturally invokes more grandiloquent language, powerful metaphors and rousing partisan tone than a campaign which, on balance, argues that it's best to simply stick with the status quo. Examining the huge amount of discourse generated before, during and since the June 2016 EU Referendum, The Language of Brexit looks into the role language played in the democratic process and the influence and impact it had on electors, leading to an unexpected result and uncertain future.

Buckledee, Steve VerfasserIn (DE-588)1154697835 (DE-627)1016097786 (DE-576)50117429X aut, The language of Brexit how Britain talked its way out of the European Union Steve Buckledee, London New York Oxford New Delhi Sydney Bloomsbury Academic 2018, vi, 231 Seiten Illustrationen, Text txt rdacontent, ohne Hilfsmittel zu benutzen n rdamedia, Band nc rdacarrier, Literaturverzeichnis: Seite 211-227, Investigating the 2016 EU Referendum in the UK, The Language of Brexit explores the ways in which 'Brexit' campaigners utilised language more persuasively than their 'Remain' counterparts. Examining the huge amount of discourse generated before, during and since the June 2016 EU Referendum, The Language of Brexit looks into the role language played in the democratic process and the influence and impact it had on electors, leading to an unexpected result and uncertain future., European Union Great Britain, European Union Membership, Rhetoric Political aspects Great Britain, Communication in politics Great Britain, Referendum Great Britain History 21st century, Discourse analysis, Communication in politics, Referendum, Rhetoric, European Union, Great Britain Foreign relations European Union countries, European Union countries Foreign relations Great Britain, g (DE-588)4022153-2 (DE-627)104665513 (DE-576)208942076 Großbritannien gnd, s (DE-588)1109778066 (DE-627)864358229 (DE-576)475588614 Brexit gnd, s (DE-588)4059501-8 (DE-627)106143298 (DE-576)209131039 Terminologie gnd, s (DE-588)4076704-8 (DE-627)104598395 (DE-576)20920267X Rhetorik gnd, DE-101, Bloomsbury Publishing Verlag (DE-588)106536895X (DE-627)816743002 (DE-576)425040674 pbl, 9781350047990 : ePDF, 9781350047983 : ebook, Erscheint auch als Online-Ausgabe Buckledee, Steve The language of Brexit London : Bloomsbury Academic, 2018 1 Online-Ressource (DE-627)1010534025 (DE-576)518070875 1350047996 9781350047990 1350047988 9781350047983, Erscheint auch als Online-Ausgabe Buckledee, Steve The language of Brexit London : Bloomsbury Academic, an imprint of Bloomsbury Publishing Plc, 2018 1 Online-Ressource (241 Seiten) (DE-627)1013812441 (DE-576)520247620 9781350047990 9781350047983, Erscheint auch als Online-Ausgabe Buckledee, Steve The language of Brexit London, 2018 1 Online-Ressource (234 pages) (DE-627)1034142364 9781350048003 9781350047990, FID-MEDIEN-DE-15, DE-Ch1 epn:352678700X 2019-12-16T11:24:43Z, DE-Zwi2 epn:3283696349 2018-06-28T12:34:54Z |
